Rev. Michael Lyons was inducted at St. Mary on Aug. 13. Lyons was ordained a priest in 2022. He had served the parish of St. John, Nipawin, Diocese of Saskatchewan, for almost four years, and before that was at Christopher Lake.
Lyons, who has limited sight and can read braille, was instrumental in the creation of a braille version of the Book of Common Prayer. With a $5,000 grant from the Anglican Foundation, he contacted an embossing company in New Brunswick in 2020.
The braille prayer book includes services of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, Holy Communion, Baptism, Burial and Matrimony.
Meanwhile, Rev. Louis Harris will begin his ministry in St. Aidan in November. He is currently serving in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas (Texas) and had previously served in the Diocese of Saskatchewan.
He was ordained to the priesthood in 2024. He comes to the Diocese of Qu’Appelle with gifts for priestly ministry, parish leadership, preaching, education and formation, pastoral care, and the
building up of Christian community.
Harris was raised in Shellbrook and is the son of an Anglican priest. The family moved to Charlottetown, PEI when he was 11 and to Reading, UK, when he was 15. As an adult, he has spent time back in Charlottetown, in Toronto, and at Pusey House in Oxford, UK.
Harris has been serving as Curate for the last two years at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. He looks forward to returning home to Canada.
